Blooming

Berkeley AcupunctureSupporting teenagers through the important life changes

Being the mother of a lovely 10-year-old girl, I am in awe of this beautiful process as she begins the changes from girl to woman.  If only she know how beautiful she is, this amazing little rosebud blooming before my eyes.  I remember my own transition.  Although beautiful to watch it can be an overwhelming experience from the hormonal changes and acne to learning how to manage the  monthly menstrual cycle.

At Bina Jangda Acupuncture, I help girls start their reproductive life by understanding the changes their bodies are going through and by encouraging them to adopt  healthy practices that will be beneficial throughout their lives.

From a Chinese Medical perspective, puberty is actual the first intense hormonal change  a woman experiences.  Much like menopause.  The energy it takes to start the reproductive life is the same energy it takes to stop it.  Hormone changes signal the start of both stages.  These changes can cause mood swings, unexplained irritability, acne, and sleep disorders.  In Chinese Medicine, we think of puberty as a blooming and rushing forward of yang.  Menopause is an unwinding and decompressing of the yin.  The symptoms are similar and so the treatment is similar.  While most people know of the benefits of acupuncture and herbs for menopause, not many are aware of the benefits of acupuncture and herbs for puberty.

At the Berkeley Acupuncture Center, I see teenagers for the following conditions:

  • Acne
  • Hormone Imbalance
  • Depression
  • Irregular/Painful Menstruation
  • Anxiety
  • Eating Disorders
  • Stress
  • Sport Injuries
