Preventative Medicine

Berkeley AcupuncturePreventative medicine is defined as the part of medicine engaged with preventing disease rather than curing it. From the very beginning, Oriental medicine has had a bias towards keeping patients healthy. The first emporer of China, Qin Shi Huang (259BC-210BC), who is credited for the Great Wall, established a health care system in which physicians could only accept payment or donations from patrons who were kept healthy and were not paid when someone fell ill. To quote the Huang Di Niejing: “To treat diease that has already developed is a comparable to the behavior of those persons who being to dig a well after they have become thirsty…..would these actions not be too late?”

Preventative medicine is a concept that is very different from how medicine is practiced in America today.
At Berkeley Acupuncture Center, our focus is keeping you well and disease free. Years before an affliction can be detected with MRI’s and lab tests, biochemical and energetic imbalances exist in the body. These imbalances may present as pain, sleep disturbances, mood changes, abnormal digestion, headaches and menstrual irregularities. Don’t ignore these signs. At Berkeley Acupuncture Center we offer seasonal well visits just four times a year serve to tonify the inner organ systems and correct minor annoyances before they become serious problems. While no one can escape the end of life, we can all choose how we will meet it. I want for all my patients that they meet the end with there wits intact and their bodies strong.
